Brett joined the staff of Highland Park in June of 2006. He became the Lead Pastor in August of 2010. Prior to coming to HPBC, he spent 11 years working in Student Ministry. Raised in a pastor’s home, Brett gave his life to Christ at the age of 15. He surrendered to God’s call in ministry about six months later. Brett’s passion in ministry is connecting Christ-followers in the local church with God’s activity throughout the world. In addition to serving at Highland Park, he also serves on the Board of Directors of Shoals Sav-a-Life, as well as the Board of Directors of Plant West Partners, a church-planting network committed to planting churches in the West. He has been married for thirteen years to his wife, Taryn. They reside in Muscle Shoals with their three children, Clay, Noah and Abby.
Worship Arts Pastor
Jeff has served as HPBC’s Worship Arts Pastor since 2008. He leads worship at each of Highland Park’s four Sunday worship services, and oversees planning and preparation of musicians and other personnel for worship services, including the worship choir, worship singers and bands. He also produces our annual “Christmas with Highland Park” event that includes a wide array of musicians, actors, dancers and technical artists. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Middle Tennessee State University, and spent 10 years as a music educator before answering God’s call to vocational ministry in 1993. He served at churches in Tennessee and Kentucky before coming to Muscle Shoals. He and his wife, Mary, live in Muscle Shoals and have 3 children – Max (21), Maggie (19), and Graham (15).
Dr. James Taylor
Life Transformation Pastor
James leads our community group and discipleship ministries. He joined the staff team in June 2011. Prior to coming to HPBC, James spent 5.5 years as a senior pastor and 8 years in student ministry. He came to Christ at the age of 18 while a freshmen at the University of Arkansas. James is married to Kara, and they have two gorgeous daughters (Hailey & Hannah). He holds a BS degree from the University of Arkansas and both a Masters of Divinity degree and a Doctor of Ministry degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Kingdom Advancement Pastor
Steve is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University (83) and Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary (91). His wife of 29 years is Cala. They have 4 children: Josh, Joe, Sarah Beth, and Sam, all who grew up in South Africa while they served as IMB missionaries there for 9 years. In October of 2012, the Lord led him to serve at Highland Park as Kingdom Advancement Pastor & College Pastor. His life verse is Luke 9:23, “Then Jesus said to the all: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.’” His desire is to see people from every tongue, tribe, and nation (regardless of their age) enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and worship Him as Lord.
Next Generation Pastor
Neil and his wife of 16 years, Ali, joined our Highland Park pastoral team in November of 2014. As our Next Generation Pastor, Neil oversees the vision for our Preschool, Children and Student Ministries, working to integrate family-oriented discipleship throughout the church. Neil and Ali have four children: Carleigh, Sadie Anne, Wes, and Jacob. Neil graduated from Carson-Newman University with a degree in Business Management and surrendered to the call to full-time ministry. He is currently pursuing his Masters in Theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Neil is an avid sports fan, particularly fond of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
His favorite Bible verse is Galatians 6:14: “But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
